the Director
Welcome to the Theatre!
On behalf of BLT, and all the folks who’ve had a hand in its formation,
please allow me to thank you for the support of the arts in Bradford that
has brought us to the opening of our fifth anniversary season. We open
this season mindful of the events that have touched us over the last few
weeks.
As
with all anniversaries, we pause to reflect on the past and dream of the
future. We remember the events in our REAL lives that have affected who
we are and make us the people and performers who have come together to
produce this show.
Looking back at the past was part of what brought us to the choice of
Little Shop. As a tongue-in-cheek homage to some of the cheesiest movies
ever made, horror films especially, the show takes us on a walk through
the pitfalls of timidity, greed and unbridled ambition. It is a spoof
of all that has come before it, from King Kong to The Blob to Michael
Jackson’s "Thriller." We intend to poke fun at our fears and stereotypical
thinking.
The ‘column and cube’ set was chosen to allow the audience’s imagination
help tell the story, because, as I was reminded several years ago by a
very wise designer, "the audience enjoys helping to tell the story !" The
set design is a tribute to our dear friend, John "Shortie" Shortencarier,
an award-winning designer who passes away recently.
Looking ahead to our future, we see bright things. Based on the support
you’ve shown us in our first five years, the future looks rosey indeed.
We thank YOU for our past and invite you to share our future.
Enjoy!
