Veronica's Room

Bradford Little Theatre (BLT) announces open auditions for the opening show of their 21st season, “Veronica’s Room.” By Ira Levin, the author of “Rosemary’s Baby,” this insidious mystery thriller explores the thin line between fantasy and reality. A young couple find themselves as guests enticed to the Brabissant mansion by its dissolute, lonely caretakers. Struck by the young woman’s strong resemblance to the long- dead daughter of the family for whom they work, the eponymous Veronica, the older couple gradually convince her to impersonate Veronica briefly to comfort the only living Brabissant, Veronica’s addled sister who believes her to be alive. Once dressed in Veronica’s clothes, the young woman finds herself locked in the role and locked in Veronica’s room.

There are 4 roles available:

  • The Older Woman, mid-fifties or sixties, who is pleasant, charming and charismatic - but is hiding a dark secret.
  • The Older Man, mid-fifties or sixties, who is sweet, but easily manipulated - bows to whatever the Woman wants him to do.
  • The Young Man, mid-twenties, is defensive, rude and a bit abrasive - there is something off about him.
  • The Young Woman, mid-twenties, very free, promiscuous and smart - very much a hippy. This actress needs to be comfortable with mild, partial nudity.

Irish and New Jersey accents are desired but not required.

The show will be directed by Charlotte YerpeStock, who directed BLT’s “Death & Taxes” in 2016.

“The reason this show interested me was because it kept me on the edge of my seat the first time I read it. I think that it will be challenging as a director and especially for my actors. It takes you to some dark and uncomfortable places and that intrigues me,” YerpeStock said.

Auditions will be held at Togi’s Playhouse, 18 Welch Ave. in Bradford, on Friday, August 18th 6 - 8pm and Saturday, August 19th 10 - 12 pm. Call-backs if needed will be scheduled the following week.

Those planning to audition do not need to prepare anything in advance, but should dress comfortable and be ready to read and act out scenes. Everyone auditioning is asked bring a list of known scheduling conflicts.

“Veronica’s Room” will be performed at Togi’s Playhouse October 13 - 15th, 2017.
