Aug 8, 2014
Bradford Little Theatre, along with directors Pamala Mahle and Shane Oschman, is excited to announce audition dates for Jesus Christ Superstar, the opening show for BLT’s 18th Season.
“Bradford Little Theatre is pleased and excited to present “Jesus Christ Superstar.” This show was a huge hit on Broadway and a successful movie. So many people are familiar with the music I believe there will be a large number of participants from a greater geographic area. Shane Oschman and Pamala Mahle , with their combined talent and experience will be a fantastic team. As producer, I can’t wait for auditions!” says BLT president Nanci Garris.
Auditions for the show will take place Sunday, August 17 from 2-5 pm and Wednesday, August 20 from 6-9 at the Bradford Little Theatre office, 79 Main St. Callbacks, if needed, will be held on Friday, August 22 from 6-9. Anyone in high school or older is welcome to audition, no matter their skill level.
Individuals interested in auditioning need to prepare a piece of their own choosing, or from the show, that is approximately 1.5 minutes long. Those auditioning should also wear comfortable clothing as there will be a movement audition as well. Sheet music for the show will be available to those needing it, as will an accompanist.
Oschman said of this production, “Jesus Christ Superstar is a timeless classic and I’m excited to be working on it in Bradford. This will be an exciting show for the cast and for the Bradford community.”
This rock opera is loosely based on accounts of the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion.
Principal roles in the rockstar musical include Judas Iscariot, Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene, Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas, Annas, Peter, Simon Zealotes, and King Herod.
“BLT and I are hopeful to recruit a very large cast- possibly over 60 people! As a result, there will be parts available for all talent levels and most time commitments. It is my vision to run well structured and thought out rehearsals as to not waste the valuable time of our cast. Furthermore, we are making every effort to bring a thorough vision that our actors can embrace and, ultimately, our audience can enjoy,” according to Oschman.
Jesus Christ Superstar is presented through special arrangement from Rodgers & Hammerstein and will be performed at the Bradford Area High School Auditorium on October 10, 11, and 12.
