Bradford Little Theatre (BLT) announces open auditions for the opening show of their 22nd season, “A Red Plaid Shirt” by Michael G. Wilmot. This comedy about life after retirement centers on two friends fill the void left by retirement in different ways. Marty decides he wants to explore the open road on a Harley while Fred decides to pay, maybe too much, attention to his health. With a little “subtle redirection” from their wives and a creative solution to a very unusual problem (which may or may not include a homemade coffin) they find the right track… eventually.

There are 4 roles available:

  • Marty, mid-sixties, a retired high school english teacher, clever and funny, is going through a sort of end of life crisis trying to re-identify himself after retiring.

  • Deb, late fifties or early sixties, Marty’s wife who has been retired for a little while and is trying desperately to help her husband find himself and bring their relationship closer together. She is witty and sarcastic.

  • Fred, late sixties and long retired, he is Marty’s best friend. He has come to face the “end of his life” by concocting a new ailment daily.

  • Gladys, mid-to-late sixties, Fred’s wife and Deb’s best friend. Also retired, she is trying to deal with her husbands new found hypochondria while supporting Deb dealing with Marty’s crisis-of-identity.

The show will be directed by Chelsea Place, who has directed BLT’s “Shrek the Musical” and “Aesop’s Fable-ous Christmas Tree.”

“This show reminds me a bit of my grandparents and is just a really funny and endearing show” Place said.

Auditions will be held at Togi’s Playhouse, 18 Welch Ave. in Bradford, on Wednesday, August 15th 7 - 9pm and Thursday, August 16th 7 - 9pm. Call-backs if needed will be scheduled. After casting rehearsals will run 2-3 days per week.

“This show is really designed to spotlight older actors which are often neglected for lead roles,” Place said.
